A report from the hospital about men, but also women, or A bitter comedy of how bodies and souls open in the men’s ward. One of Stanislav Štepka’s most famous comedies in its over a half-century-long history of the Radošinské naivné divadlo /Radošina Naive Theater/ has been the play titled Women’s Ward (1987) – with the legendary and unforgettable actress Katarína Kolníková in the lead role. The current bitter or sensitive comedy Men’s ward is trying to follow up on the great success of the above mentioned cult production. In Men’s ward, with his typical humorous view, the author depicts the various and colorful destinies of a group of patients in a current hospital, in the men’s ward this time. We will follow the authentic and earthy life stories of a league football player, a strange and cheerful master repairman, a former head waiter and his waitress wife, a bitter story of a government minister, but also a doctor and a quirky nurse in the men’s ward of a state hospital. Destinies colorfully intertwined with bitter, but also – since we are in RND – mainly humorous situations and stories, which, in the end, report on sore souls rather than bodies. In the production of Men’s Ward, the audience will certainly recognize all of the author’s typical cognitive features and the poetics of the Radošina Naive Theater, the well-known actors (Maruška Nedomová, Stanislav Štepka, etc.), but especially typical humor, the smell of man and poetic songs, this time presented by so-called stage hospital Red Noses. The RND ensemble’s comedy Men’s Ward was directed by Juraj Nvota, in collaboration with composer Juraj Hašek and playwright Mirka Čibenková.
